In life we can purposefully make things happen, conversely, things can happen to us seemingly out of our control.
In my practice I have been working on a process in which chance and accident are almost as important as purpose and consideration. Through this process I deal with the notion of control and loss of control, both in terms of paint and ink and as fear and emotion.
Using disparate components, dark humor and personal symbolism, I revels in the use of irreverent language, both written and visual. I draw the viewer in with familiar imagery and form, both human and animal, creating a sense of comfort; an understanding with the viewer. This comfort is shattered by the ambiguous and disparate arrangement of these motifs, forcing uncomfortable truths upon the unsuspecting viewer. I create a fantastical juxtaposition of the beautiful and the disgusting, the familiar and the unknown.
