I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember.
I am inspired by the beauty of the countryside, a great love of nature, the craftsmanship found in old buildings and just a love and freedom I find from expressing myself on paper.
Since 1992 I have specialised in painting watercolour miniatures. I feel I can immerse myself within a painting so small and I enjoy adding detail, step by step, until I feel I have captured the large view in miniature. I enjoy the challenge of producing a detailed work so small from a large structure such as a church. Working in miniature has given me a special closeness to each piece of work I produce and much love and care is within each brushstroke.
Work on each painting takes a lot of concentration due to it being so small and the fact that each brushstroke needs to be placed just right to keep things to scale. Therefore each painting can take up to 2 months to complete.
I became a member of the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists in June 2002 for producing work of a consistently high standard. I felt very proud.
I’ve had my work shown in the Mall Gallery in London and was highly commended for a painting of a Telephone Box (5.5cm x 4cm) and received a prize from Daler-Rowney.
Having taught on a one-to-one basis I have been able to help and encourage students into expressing and producing work of their own, which has been satisfying for both me and my students.
