I won my first art competition at age 12 when I painted an 'ant eater' for a womans magazine. I was amazed when I was told I had won first prize: it was not much but my work was judged the best; quite a thrill. I went on to take 'A' level art but disliked the restrictions of academia and although I continued to love art; I went to university to study GEOLOGY.
Somehow I ended up in a police career as a detective. 30 years later, I find myself semi-retired and still loving art in all it's forms. I started to paint using oils and acrylics and soon began to find my style which an old art tutor once described as 'full of verve and enthusiasm'. I work mainly in an abstract style, painting quickly and directly onto canvas. My work has bold, strong colours and texture in which I try to convey movement and emotion.
