I have attempted art since a small boy. I continue to pursue what I enjoy, but I believe that this is a lifetime struggle to perfect what cannot be perfected.
I was presented with my first painting set by my father when about 11 years old. My first painting - in oil - was of a bowl of fruit. I have no idea what happened to this painting, but if memory serves, I think it was quite good! Let down, time and again in my attempts to study art - my parents thought me a fool and worse, I believed them - I gave up and pursued a career with the British Army. I did however continue to paint and sketch and to sell my paintings to anyone that showed interest. Self-taught, I studied the many styles of art from those artists I felt a kindred spirit. I would visit art gallery after art gallery, studying any and all artists' work, memorising the many details of the paintings. In 1996 I became a self-employed artist for real. I have painted murals on commission and even painted children's furniture. I have also designed maps for magazines, portrait paintings, caracatures and cartoons amongt the many struggles to gain recognition and even tried my hand at tattooing! My passion is to paint scenes and to (eventually) do this as well as I can. I do not however wish to be stymied by painting in a particular style. Art, by definition is varied, so why then does an artist need to conform to a particular style?
