In the current world, we are constantly bombarded by reams of information, and are constantly attempting to keep pace and compete with rapidly evolving ideas and technologies. My work embodies the antithesis of this, focusing on reclaiming WH Davies’ ‘time to stand and stare’. Each piece encapsulates this ideal in a still of the natural world, and embodies a moment of tranquility.
In my adolescence, my artwork was much influenced by pop-artists and surrealists. It enabled me to explore emotions and paradigms in my surroundings. These styles heavily influenced my GCSE artwork, which I received almost full marks for and won the school Painting of the year award.
At university, I explored my artistic influences, of which the impressionists became the overriding part. This engendered me to teach myself oils and trial landscape painting. I later experimented for the first time with pen and ink, as I was interested in the textures and relief provided by such a medium.
