I have no artistic education, and did not believe I had any talent or sources of inspiration for any type of artistic endeavour. A couple of years ago I produced some sketches in charcoal for my wife as a special anniversary present. She actively encouraged me to continue exploring this "hidden" talent. I have progressed through charcoal, stencil work, acrylic paint on paper, and have recently discovered the joys and challenges of painting oil onto canvas.
My works are always slightly abstract and I really enjoy strong colour, interesting light and form. I always manage exactly to paint the image that I have in my mind. My process always involves a detailed pencil sketch on paper, in colour, prior to putting brush to canvas. I have a great love of what I call colour separation, that is looking for the hidden background colours in any particular shade or tone and then extrapolating those individual colours and representing them as part of the mosaic that, for example, builds up a flesh tone. The most vivid example of this is my oil on canvas "Nude".
