Barry is a painter and draughtsman living and working in West Yorkshire, UK. Barry takes inspiration from the visual world around him and attempts to make something more memorable from the subject, painting in an intuitive expressive manner. Drawing is paramount to everything I do. A number of drawing may be produced of the same subject until I feel that certain intimacy with the subject which is so important. Sometimes photos are taken as a quick reference to tone. My main subjects are figures in the public space.
Barry began painting seriously in 1976 and is mainly self taught. Although in 2000 he enrolled for the Art and Design course at Calderdale College, Halifax. Barry progressed to do a Fine Arts degree at Bradford College of Art gaining a BA (Hons) in 2006. After this he obtained a teaching certificate from Huddersfield University, and for a season taught art classes in East Lancashire. Barry has also taught drawing and painting in a voluntary capacity to adults at Todmorden College in West Yorkshire. Barry now works from his studio in Calderdale.
