I studied drawing and painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee between 1973 and 1977. Alberto Morrocco was the head of drawing and painting at the time and I studied under him along with other well-known Scottish artists such as Jack Knox and Mackintosh Patrick.
After leaving art college with a diploma in drawing and painting, I pursued a career as a freelance illustrator while continuing to paint in my private time. One of the highlights of my early career was selling a painting to the Duke of Edinburgh at the annual RSA exhibition; I understand that the painting (which was a landscape of the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh) now hangs in the private apartments of Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh. Another highlight was being asked by Richard Demarco to exhibit at the Festival of the Sea Exhibition in 2003 in Edinburgh.
Over the years I have participated in various group exhibitions including the Leith Gallery and the annual MacMillan Cancer Relief show.
In the last two years I have been pursuing painting as a full time career and, as can be seen from my work, I find the sea a constant source of inspiration.
