I am a retired Art Teacher.
I studied at Birmingham College of Art during the sixties and my qualifications are the National Diploma in Art and Design and the Art Teachers Diploma. I have taught in art departments at secondary high school level in Birmingham and Worcester and also adult education evening classes. I have wide range of creative and practical skills and during my teaching career I taught all aspects of art and design specialising in hand made pottery and Desk Top Publishing. I also led Summer School classes for teachers in pottery and ceramics. I designed, built and painted scenery for many large scale school musical productions.
My earlier work in ceramics as part of teaching projects with both school students and adults frequently followed themes based on natural form but as I am not now able to pursue this craft due to inaccessibility of essential equipment I find my recent interest in painting now provides an essential creative outlet.
Since retiring I have produced a number of paintings and I use natural form as inspiration. Tree roots, bark and seed pods and the wider qualities of landscape interest me. I enjoy working with shapes, movements and colour to produce pieces which are semi-abstract but which still have a recognisable relationship with the starting point; I try to portray the forms with intrigue and interest.
I use acrylic paint on either canvas or board and I feel the fairly large scale paintings have dramatic impact and originality.
