My work draws on the landscape of the Isle of Man, reinterpreted with the help of my imagination.
I aim to capture the overall drama and variety of the landscape and skyline together with my empathy for the places I love.
I work predominantly with acrylic paints as they allow me to work with spontaneity (and sometimes impatience!) and adapt quickly, depending on the direction I find the painting taking. I can never be certain how a painting will evolve from start to finish and for me, this is the most exciting part of the process.
I try always to have a digital camera with me so I can capture fleeting moments, be they unusual cloud formations or patterns of light, as and when inspiration strikes. These photographs form the starting point for most paintings, which I then try to recreate, combining these with the overall sense of mood I felt for the place when I was there.
