I have been painting and drawing from an early age, with nudes becoming my subject of choice from as early as the end of high school.
During my training at Chelsea Art College and University of Wales my interest in the nude form and the effects of light became cemented.
I am interested in the presence of colour within shadow, the effects of differing light sources on a lone figure, and the resulting problems surrounding the depiction of ‘light’.
To create my work I use a combination of life models, mirrors and photography. I still appreciate and stick with the traditional techniques of canvas preparation and therefore still prime all canvases with rabbit skin glue. I use a very thin layer of oil paint, usually with a very ‘worked’ finish
After graduating from university I held solo exhibitions in the South West.
In 2004 I claimed the Hans Brinker Trophy of Amsterdam- an exhibition involving 40 art colleges, and 2005 saw me return to Hans Brinker for a successful solo exhibition.
I have been short listed twice for London’s BP Portrait Award and have completed several large scale corporate commissions.
I have spent the last few years living in Australia where I exhibited and sold work through private galleries in Melbourne. Recently returning to the South West to continue my work from England, with new influences through travel.
