My inspiration comes from the surrounding Devon coastline and the science of moving liquids. My work is an exploration of mutability and stasis and fluid dynamics. I look at the properties of paint as a fluid, its velocity, density and temperature as functions of space and time. Heraclitus, a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher thought that 'the nature of everything is change itself, change is real and stability illusory, everything is in flux, everything flows, nothing stands still'.
