Chris Knapman

Chris Knapman has enjoyed a successful career as an artist in both the UK and Canada spanning over 20 years. He trained in 'Fine Art' and 'Graphic Design' at Blackpool and Fylde College and went on to complete a degree in 'Illustration' at West Hertfordshire College.

His achievements encompass a broad range of artistic genres. He has enjoyed particular success in the field of portraiture. His painting of rock stars have been exhibited in Virgin Megastores in both Vancouver and Manchester, with a painting of the 'Rolling Stones' being snapped up by the agent to 'Charlie Watts'. Singer 'Phil Collins' even sponsored Chris for a grant from the 'Prince's Trust', and subsequently Chris worked as an 'Illustrator/Graphic Designer' for 'Icon Communications', who provide the graphics for rock acts such as 'Pink Floyd', 'Queen' and 'Radiohead'.

Caricatures are a particular speciality, with Chris not only being commissioned to design a caricatured t-shirt for 'Phil Collins', but also working as a 'roving caricaturist' at corporate events.

Chris's talents also include mural work. This led to him being commissioned to paint 'A History of Preston' as a show-piece in the town's largest shopping centre, and a large Reuben's style mural in a local restaurant.

In addition, Chris has illustrated several books, and designed endless promotional and merchandising material. Chris has also given numerous talks, classes and demonstrations to a number of local clubs and societies.

Chris creates equally eye-catching work using a range of media including: oils, watercolours, pastels and pencils.

Recently Chris has started to produce limited edition photographic prints of local and historic buildings set in his native Lancashire area.
