Artist Chris Russon

I studied Contemporary Art at Leeds Metropolitan University, and previously studied at Cleveland College of Art and Design.
Leeds is where I live.

I work with photograms. I’ve used light impressions to create an intermixed play of tones and silhouettes which straddle the line somewhere between painting and photograph.
To me they are beautiful, enigmatic images, with a captivating strangeness to them.
I think they are mysterious and complex and are full of character. I love the immense richness of variation that comes as a natural part of them.

They have a very definite form and shape, yet are very ambiguous at the same time. They are open to interpretation the same way paintings are. They occupy a space suggested between abstract painting and pictorial, or figurative painting or photography.

I think the images spark thoughts and questions, as to what the content of the picture is.
Seeing all the textures, tones, gradients, shapes and silhouettes converge to form the images character is intriguing and fascinating to me.
