Christopher Tucker - born 1948 in Sherborne England. Painter, Sculptor, Illustrator and occasional Graphic Designer.
After leaving school he joined the Royal Navy, but after an accident left to continue his academic studies in Art, Pure Mathematics and Technical Drawing at Yeovil college of technology, Yeovil, Somerset.
In 1968 he entered East Ham Art School, East London where he studied, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Print Making and Photography. Twelve months later he was invited to study Fine Art (Painting) at Chelsea
School of Art, one of Europe’s most prestigious art schools in, graduating in 1972.
Chris is reluctant to be described as being part of an artistic movement or classification - his art can be figurative, abstract, surreal, optical, illusionary decorative or even conceptual. He has an eclectic range of influences that include the works of artists Brigit Riley, Victor Vasarely, M. C. Escher, Paul Klee, John Ernest and
Gillian Wise; mathematicians August Ferdinand Möbius and Roger Penrose; and psychologist Richard L. Gregory.
In his search to translate three-dimensionality to two a dimensional format – the canvass or similar, Chris uses the language of drawing, mathematics, logic and psychology; applying colours and shades, lights and shapes, using the most diverse types of mediums - from fabric to
wood, from glass to the computer.
His creations - whether in painting, sculpture or printmaking – provokes a restless appearance, he argues with emotions, puts the viewer on the edge between truth and illusion. It is an art that "speaks" and questions that invades spaces – and excludes indifference.
Since he began his artistic career, Chris Tucker was present as visiting artist and exhibitor at various shows in England including the Chelsea School of Art diploma exhibition 1972, The Greenwich Art Festival, The ‘Dairy Gallery’, Islington, North London, The ‘Plesaunce’ gallery, Eltham, South East London, The London Bridge
Station Exhibition Centre, South East London and the University of Greenwich. He has been commissioned to provide pictures and designs for private individuals, public organisations and private companies,
including The University of Greenwich, Kingpin, The LGIU, The Dorothy Marshall School of Dancing, Microsoft, Southeastern (Railway), First Leisure, Club100 and others.
Now his works are being showed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the Laksmi Gallery.
