Artist Claire Keay

I work from home in my tiny and very messy little studio. I have had a variety of jobs over the years but when I started my family I finally had the chance to enjoy my hobby of art as I had more time at home. It soon blossomed into selling a few paintings and then before I knew it, I was selling artwork all over the world and had an agent in London getting me children's books to illustrate. I still can't quite believe that I get to do the one thing which I enjoy the most as a job - what luck. I have always been inspired by children's book illustrations, where there is space for bright colours and the imagination to run wild. Most of my art has been described as rather whimsical, I find it rather hard not to draw happy characters and pictures and even when I try to paint darker images they still have a gentleness to them. I work mostly in watercolour, as I am terribly impatient and can get quick results, but some of my favourite paintings have been when I get my acrylics out. Claire Keay
