For me my art is a way of putting emotions and stories down on paper without having to really talk about them. I suffered a serious knee injury playing rugby when I was about to turn 20 and my life unexpectedly took a change of direction. For me this was devastating, and for a long time I was left with a huge void to fill.
Having finished university I needed to have two major surgeries in the space of a year meaning I would be unable to work for nearly a year. This was a very testing and hard time in my life, but also a period I learnt a lot.
It was in this period I picked up my paintbrush again and did my first painting “Fly where you want in life”, a painting I did two months out of surgery, bedbound. Some friends said they liked the painting and encouraged me to do more. My art acted as a release in which I could express myself freely, giving me something positive to focus on while I recovered. I learnt to think more creative, and found I developed a skill of turning words and meanings into pictures. I now use this ability daily in my branding jobs and have had the pleasure of creating lots of art work.
I very rarely draw or paint from observation, with the vast majority of my work coming from my interpretations of music lyrics, current affairs and my life experiences and how they make me feel. I spend a lot of time reading music, and try to transfer song meanings into my pictures. Often I will paint listening to a song on my IPod on repeat for a couple of hours to inspire me for a particular piece of work.
I mainly work with acrylic paints and sprays. I also like to use black acrylic pens, with my main work focusing on mixing the two material types together, using classic painting and modern pen drawing.
I am currently selling my artwork in a high end restaurant in the heart of central London.
