My artistic career began when I studied for an A-level in art and design in college, this then paved the way for my degree, which I have since completed in Fine Art: Painting and Drawing from the University of Huddersfield, gaining an upper second class honours degree as a bachelor of arts.
As the name of my degree may suggest I was geared towards painting and drawing throughout my university career, however in my final year I began to move increasingly into the medium of digital art, creating hand drawn elements then scanning them into the computer and composing final images using a number of these hand drawn elements. Since leaving university I have continued to work in this matter and have expanded on the subject matter which I began in my final year at Huddersfield, which is described in more depth below.
My work is based upon a fascination with the folklore that is part of the British culture. Through my interest in this folklore culture I began working with existing stories, however my work has since developed into an interest in their narrative style. I in turn began to create my own stories which follow a similar narrative style as the folklore tales. From this I create artist books and prints which illustrate narrative structures rather than merely illustrating the story. The books contain a series of images which show the development in stories and the formal development of the images as well, whilst the prints are of specific key illustrations from the books.
