Mainly self-taught, I have always found a way to use my creative skills, from designing and sculpting moulds for the chocolate industry to making salt dough figures for family and friends. As a mature student I gained an HNC in Art and Design and my first paintings were in acrylics with a few elements of added collage. As I love working with my hands I found collage to be the perfect medium for me and it has now become my preferred method. I paint all the papers I use in my collages with quality acrylics and inks using various mark making techniques before even starting the collaging element. The painted paper is then carefully chosen for colour, tone and texture. This, along with the correct layering and direction of the paper is the key that gives my work form, each piece in place of a brushstroke. I hand tear the papers into shape, almost like another form of sculpting for me. I very rarely use scissors as this leaves a hard edge, which I find makes my work too rigid. Along with my painted papers I also use found papers in my work such as stamps, teabag and sweet wrappers and old letters. My love for animals and the great outdoors are often reflected in my work along with bright, vibrant colours that convey the positive side of life. My work is ideal if you are looking for an artwork that offers something unusual and appealing to the eye. Thank you for viewing my work!Artgallery rating
