If I don't paint or sketch regularly it becomes a strong need I have to fulfil. I believe this makes me an artist. I seek perfection, so always strive to paint better.
I don't paint directly from real life, preferring instead not to be overlooked whilst painting. Having a good eye for contrast and colour I take loads of pictures and transfer them into paintings. Often exercising my artistic license, if my painting looks better with e.g a black horse instead of the white one I can see, the horse will be black.
3D Painting is something I experiment in. Milksnake picture is an example of this. Using acrylics, Strong red against a completely black background makes the snake jump out at you. Using different techniques to create shading to increase 3D effects is also something you will often see in my work.
I will never put something up for sale that I wouldn't put up on my own wall. Many canvases waiting in my spare room haven't made the cut. I love my mum, she's wonderful, she's also my worst critic. Much of my art is due to her pointing out the errors so I can correct it. I have painted two garden murals for her, one in the kitchen and one outside, which she loves.
I love painting, I will never stop, simply seeing my art in a gallery, on the net is a massive thrill. I don't know if I can say I express myself in my paintings, simply put sometimes animals or places or people are so beautiful you have to paint them. Photographs are often slightly different to what you can see with the naked eye. Paintings express real life better.
