Self taught, I started watercolour painting and sketching on walking, cycling or canoeing trips and taught watercolour techniques for about ten years. I started oil painting about six years ago after meeting artist Peter Barton who showed me his unique style of depicting mountain terrain. With his help I adopted this to suit my own way of interpreting the mountains and coastal scenery of Scotland and sell on average three paintings a month and supply four galleries. Prices range from £150.00 to £400.00.
I work from my studio at my home address and also have a workshop where I make my frames and mount my work. All my work is displayed under glass to protect the surface of the painting. I do not sell prints - all work is original.
I am a member of Creative Cairngorms, the art and crafts association of Cairngorm National Park I sell paintings through these associations and through four galleries, one on Skye, one in Inverness, one in Morayshire and one on the Black Isle, Inverness-shire. I also sell direct to clients and occasionally accept a commission to paint a particular mountain for a client. Many of these commissions are intended as a present for someone who has completed climbing all of the Munros but I am also asked to paint a mountain that has special memories for a client. However, I can only accept a commission if the particular mountain is appropriate to my style.
I welcome visitors to my studio in Nethybridge, Inverness-shire.
