Deric Ch'ng Ewe Lye

Deric Chng, a new emerging British artist launches his new series of paintings London, The Visit on 26th November to 2nd December 2010 at Redgate Gallery, London. The artist who is originally from Malaysia, regularly exhibited work there from the age of twenty, including showing at the Penang State Art Gallery and the Pesta open art show, Penang from 1991 to 1998. He also participated in winter exhibitions at Feren Art Gallery,Hull from 2000-2004. He always aspired to having his own solo exhibition. The 'Redgate Gallery' is pleased to announce his first one man show which includes eighteen of his new works. In 2006, after graduating as an architect, Deric moved to London. Relocating to the capital allowed him to take a new perspective in his work. Rekindling a freshness and playfulness of that akin to a tourist, enabling him to explore popular scenes and translating them with his own unique personal approach, never losing sight of his Eastern upbringing. His paintings include the London Eye, Westminster Abbey, Tower Bridge, Camden Town, China Town and many other familiar sights. Derics style is challenging in combining the formality and rigor of his native culture and traditions. His new and often witty observations in London, The Visit are a progression from his previous loose, fluid water colors. As an artist he believes that art is an extension of his soul which permeates from time to time to reflect lifes experiences. He incorporates a rich medium of colors, and includes layers of montage pieces which form these interesting and unique paintings. Deric uses luxurious, earthy colors, featuring the passionate Red derived from his Eastern background. He says Chinese people are always fascinated by red because it represents luck, auspiciousness, signifying reunion, health, happiness, harmony, peace and prosperity. Derics work evokes inspiration and harmony. He is available for commissions in the private, public and corporate sectors.
