Drawing inspiration from graphic design and a blend of 80s and 90s cartoons, Drew Maughan developed and evolved his own style of art, without any formal training or expertise. He spent most of his early life focused on art-based subjects, specialising in sketching and the use of acrylic paints and oil pastels. He remained extremely passionate about self-expression and excelled in his creative work, until his Animation degree at the former Surrey Institute in 2001 had demotivated and disillusioned him. His experiences of early adulthood without guidance, as well as a world gone mad, have reinvigorated his creativity.
Drew has often been ostracised by his peers, resulting in the creation of a "mind world" to overcome the lack of social activity. In communicating the details of this mind world, he coins his style "neurotic art": an idiosyncratic approach to expressing deep thoughts, anxieties and emotions that are often difficult to put into words.
He currently lives in Brixton, and is currently resuming his work with acrylic paints, digital art and sketches. He is also exploring three dimensional work with vinyl figures and Lego.
