Artist Emily Skinner

I live in London and work as a freelance illustrator, specialising in childrens’ picture book and educational illustration. I also work on commercial animation projects using a variety of techniques, but favour the hands on nature of stop-frame animation, in which medium I have produced several short films. My interest in painting, drawing and mixed media as a means of storytelling led me to study illustration at degree level, and then on to a Masters in animation at The Royal College of Art. Having spent some time producing mainly digital images, I recently returned to painting as I wanted to free up my work, and enjoy the organic, random nature of the paint. I use acrylic on canvas, applied thickly with visible brushmarks, bright bold colours, and fun lively imagery. My current work is aimed primarily at children, as since having my own two children I like the idea of bringing some original artwork into children’s bedrooms and nurseries.
