Mini-biography
About me:
I arrived in Edinburgh in 1997 with a strong wish to resume my training in art after the encounters I had with the art schools in Albania and Romania. Having been exposed to the more traditional teachings of classical art I was eager to learn about the conceptual and expressive forms of art and design. Leith School of Art is where I started in Edinburgh and then I moved to the Edinburgh College of Art where I graduated in 2004 with an Honours Degree in ‘Drawing and Painting’. To explore the application of artistic forms in design I also took a High National Diploma (HND) in Interior Design from Edinburgh’s Telford College. I continue to live in Edinburgh using my past and present experiences as an inspiration for my pictorial world.
My work:
I am interested in the expression of emotions evoked by the memories and the relationships that we create with our past and present experiences. As we move through time what was once very familiar to us gets converted into a distant memory. As we lose closeness with an acquaintance the details fade away and only the core elements are preserved by our nostalgia. I would like my work to convey that very transfigurement and metamorphosis that time imposes on our memories of people, places and experiences.
Verses by T.S. Elliot (BUIRNT NORTON) have become the synopsis and the inspiration of my work:
Time present and time past?
Are both perhaps present in time future?
And time future contained in time past.
Exhibitions:
My first personal exhibition after graduation was at the University of Oxford, Linacre College under the theme ‘Down Memory Lane’. A review of this exhibition appeared in ‘The Oxford Student’ magazine titled: ‘A European Union’ by Dr R. Glitz, Volume 41, issue 8, pp 14, June 2005.
Two years later I was invited to hold another exhibition this time at the Said Business School, Oxford. I exhibited a collection of 12 works under the theme “Metamorphosis”.
Group Exhibitions include:
• Edinburgh College of Art, Final Degree Show Exhibition – June 2004
• ‘Hopes and dreams’ Exhibition organised by the Scottish Refugee Council, University of Edinburgh Culture Centre - August 1998
