I have been using photography as an art form for many years, inspired by the light in landscapes, natural surroundings and the people and places I visit and live amongst. I have been a professional photographer for ten years, and have provided images for business, books, individuals and collectors.
I have honed and extended my printing techniques and skills during the past seven years and provide photographs to a fine art exhibition quality having been guided by a friend and mentor who is a master printer himself.
I use the unique qualities of a large range of film cameras, some dating from the 1920's, to produce my photographs.
The prints are wet processed involving anything up to eleven stages and are printed on gallery weight fibre and the finest quality standard photographic paper. The choice of grade and toning is chosen for each negative individually to maximise the final image and to fulfil my artistic vision. The prints are then backed and mounted on acid free board, signed if required, and labelled. The prints are all produced in my own darkroom, including the colour prints. The prints are toned to varying degrees and will match the images that are viewed online as closely as possible. The images are open edition prints but each print produced will be unique. This is due to changes in the chemicals and batches of paper that I buy at any given time, as well as the fact that I do not keep printing notes. I also like to have artistic freedom when I do a reprint of an image.
My exhibitions to date include Lancaster University; The Gallery, Masham; The Herriot Gallery, Hawes and the North Yorkshire National Park Authority and I am also documenting the life and work of a local hill farm, the photographs are exhibited at specialist exhibitions, and I hope to develop them into a book in the future. |
