Artist Gary Potter

I have been painting for the past 20 years as a hobby, I have always found it a great outlet for my creative side and a welcome change to the constraints of engineering drawings and draughtsmanship.
During this time I have sold a number of reasonably priced works and undertaken a few commissions.

After suffering a brain injury 5 years ago, I found myself unable to paint due to the resulting cognitive problems such as inability to concentrate, plan, self motivate etc., all of which increased feelings of anxiety, stress and the dreaded depression.
After trying all sorts of painting and drawing medium in an attempt to gain some enjoyment and satisfaction from art again, I eventually found that by painting the entire canvas matt black so that it became almost representational in itself. I was then able to gradually bring the canvas to life as my mood dictates.
All of my paintings are now painted this way and not only are they very therapeutic for me but I also gain great satisfaction from allowing my moods and imagination to develop the canvas in this way.
