Artist Gavin Engelbrecht

I am a self-taught artist, having grown up with a passion for drawing and painting. I work in most mediums, capturing landscapes, cityscapes and doing portraiture. I have worked as a photo-journalist for a regional newspaper in the North-East of England for the last 20 years and spend much of my time walking and cycling around the region, looking for subjects to paint. While my paintings may have an element of photographic composition to them, I endeavour to work spontaneously and to draw from life. I enjoy the immediacy of drawing freehand in ink combined with the fluidity of watercolours. All my works are executed with the best artists' quality materials.
Since 1996, I have sold widely to friends, colleagues and acquaintances and through a gallery in Derwentside. This is my first foray into selling on the web.
