Artist Gill Stokes

I was born and grew up in Warwickshire but now live in Shropshire.
I have always been interested in painting and drawing , even from a very young age I would save my pocket money to buy pencils and brushes.
I studied fine art after leaving school, but then decided to train as a primary school teacher, still painting and drawing in what little spare time I could find.
I am now painting full time, and have had several solo exhibitions as well as exhibiting with local art societies.
I paint in Oils ,sometimes in Acrylics, and am fascinated by the natural world around us and the changing light.I like to draw and sketch outside whenever possible, but it is often more practical to make sketches and photographs and complete the painting in the studio.
I have recently had my painting "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Girl" selected for exhibition at Kings Place Gallery, Kings Cross, London as part of The Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait Exhibition. This painting also won an award at the Staffordshire Open Art Exhibition.
