Gillian Doherty (née Vocking) lived in Lagos, Nigeria in the the 1970s. At the time it was not possible to buy greetings cards so she decided to start designing and producing her own. This led to her getting commissioned to do larger pieces of work. When she left Nigeria these commissions continued and many of her paintings and drawings were purchased by ex-pats and commercial establishments. One of her designs was even used as a template for a wooden front door. As family and commitments grew her career direction changed and she has only recently begun revisting her first love of painting and drawing.Artgallery rating
