I never really planned to become an artist although I loved drawing as a child. My mother went to Camberwell School of Art but ended up a housewife and her father was a frustrated artist who finally abandoned his family and went off to Paris to paint. I was much more sensible- studied for a business degree in the States and, after a spell in the army, spent my entire working life in the UK motor industry.
Now I am retired I find myself drawn inexorably back into making "pictures" whether anyone else wants to look at them or not. We live in a remote cottage in S.Cambridgeshire with only cows and sheep for neighbours so I can now concentrate on trying to turn out paintings that are, at least, worth a look.
Having built up a portfolio of several hundred paintings, shown some in exhibitions and even sold a few (originals, or prints throught the Saatchi Gallery) I felt it was time to expose my work to a wider public. So here it is - the good, the bad and the ugly! All that the paintings have in common is that they have been triggered by some urge to capture an image or emotionon paper (or canvas).
Some of my pictures are straightforward attempts to record a scene, others are influenced by artists that went before me and my love of the old Japanese masters like Hiroshige, the 19th C. Impressionists and through to the 'modern' abstract expressionists - so for all their faults there is no lack of variety!
Thank you for taking the time to look at my work and I always try to reply to any comments or questions that are submitted.Artgallery rating
