I have been painting and illustrating in watercolour for over ten years and I am completely self-taught. I have been fortunate enough to have lived in some of the most picturesque areas of the country including the Scottish Borders, Cumbrian Lake District and most recently the Derbyshire Peak District. This has meant that inspiration for my work has never been hard to find.
Landscape was an obvious choice of subject for me and the subject that inspires me most and I look at my work as a constant endeavour to capture the fleeting moods and nuances of nature. Watercolour I feel is the medium that best captures light and I employ a range of techniques to achieve the textures you will see in my work.
I personally feel that a successful landscape painting is one that encourages you to invent the landscape beyond the painted area in your imagination. I hope you feel I have achieved this and that you enjoy looking at my work.
