My artistic education is a lifelong enjoyment of the visual. Painting and drawing have always been a big part of my life even when my career has taken me down other avenues (research physics and science teaching!).
My art is an emotional outlet and an expression of my wonder and joy in the world around.
I have completed a number of small private comissions for freinds and aquaintances and recently began illustrating for an educational publisher (Association for Science Education) on a project called "Wikid Science"! This work has been done to order with all the limitations that puts on raw creative flair...the art I produce spontaneously takes many forms depending how the mood takes me. I don't like to inflict an interpretation on any of my work - I think that that is for the observer to do.
I take inspiration from as many places as I can. I like to develop my skills through careful observation of nature: the structures in shells and flowers are intriguing. I like to experiment with colour and form and the studies I make find their way into other work in quite surprising ways!
Ilike to make things beautiful - which may be old fashioned but the world inside and outside our heads can be a dull and miserable place so I make it an aim to pull the pearls out of the pig swill!
