I teach English as a profession, but have always been passionate about art. I studied art at A Level and graduated to an art foundation course which gave me the opportunity to try a variety of creative disciplines such as life drawing, screen printing, photography etc. I have always dabbled with paints and during my teenage years, I preferred using watercolours to paint detailed illustrations of imaginative characters and animals. I wrote and illustrated a book of poems for a project I did at university. During my foundation course, I did a project on fish using mixed media, incorporating newspaper, stamps, sheets of music, old bank notes and watercolours - anything which would give the piece interest, variety and texture. Now in my 40s, I love working in oils on a larger scale with a much looser, fluid style. I tend to take photos of scenes and flowers and then create my own interpretation on canvas. I love using bold. bright colours for more impact.
