I began my architectural and fine art studies in England, the country of my birth, but left to complete them in North America .
I set up a multi-discipline consultancy in Toronto producing design and illustration for architecture, film and theatre, publishing and marketing .
A year after the death of my business partner I took what was intended to be a short sabbatical in France where I began painting for my own satisfaction. My wife took the initiative and arranged an exhibition. Another followed and, encouraged by the response, we made the decision to stay in Europe and fully accept a new lifestyle.
In the years since, although France and architecture remain particular inspirations, my choice of subject has ever been eclectic. Always a sports fan my sporting art has paid many a bill and sporting commissions have taken me about the world. And one enduring subject has been people in all walks of life in all manner of occupation; observed and recorded with affection and some humour.
I take great pleasure in my present collaboration with our son Daniel. We have been working together for over a year on a number of print series. The first of Daniel’s concepts, and the ideas are all his, of traditional childrens’ tales and nursery rhymes set in a contemporary zeitgeist. The second, similarly set, is of classic book titles with more themes in progress.
