I have recently completed my B.A. fine art degree at Southampton Solent University following a foundation degree at Bournemouth and Poole College. Since starting on my artistic journey my work has evolved and changed several times over. There is no definitive theory behind my work but instead it revolves around my continuing search for my own particular sense of aesthetics. The work is mainly concerned with process and manipulation of scrap materials found in and around the home, for example, cardboard, polystyrene packaging, wax, polyfilla, fabrics etc. Each piece is a one off and is usually mounted on a deep set canvas adding to the contemporary nature of the works. There is an ongoing narrative in the respect that each piece seems to lead on to the next in some way or another. I draw influence from such artists as Joseph Giunta and Antoni Tapies and feel that the nature of the work is deeply rooted in Arte Povera. I have been lucky enough to have some of my degree show work bought by Southampton Solent University and feel fortunate that i can now class myself as an newly emerging artist who's work is already being collected...I have a one man show lined up for next year and will be exhibiting in several shows around southern England during the next 12 months. As somebody who fell into the art world by accident, This is an exciting time for me and consequently I am always open to comments and feed back regarding my work. Please feel free to email me any questions and I will reply as quickly as possible. Thanks for visiting my page. Iain Leigh
