Jan Peters is a leading exponent of reverse painting using acrylics and gilts.
Jan graduated with an MA. in Mathematics and Design from Imperial College London. Her work is new, different and gaining rapid recognition, through galleries and exhibitions in the North West and London.
Jan worked as senior manager in a multi national company before returning to her love of art. Originally painting in “oil on canvas”, she went on to experiment with and perfect reverse painting on glass and acrylic. Her own unique hallmark techniques create fascinating detail, movement and translucency. Her strikingly contemporary work is rapidly attracting a cult following in the UK and abroad.
Every piece of Jan’s work is an original. No prints are ever made.
Artists statement: My paintings try to capture change and movement to engage imagination and convey emotion. I hope you find your interpretation of my painting evolves over time with changes in lighting conditions, your own mood or comments from another viewer. My major influences are Eastern Art, the mathematical relationship of shapes, a love of undersea diving and most of all a desire to create paintings that evolve and make you think. I give every one of my paintings its own name. This conveys what I feel. I am delighted by the feedback I receive from people. Many tell me that every time they look at their picture it changes and they become more involved with it and it becomes a part of them. A photograph or realistic painting captures only one static image. In contrast, I hope my art might “live on your walls as well as in your imagination.”
