Artist Jane Hinchliffe

Jane Hinchliffe was born in Newcastle in 1967 and now resides in the Yorkshire Dales with her family. Her work is mainly in mixed media and is currently represented in galleries in both Harrogate and Pateley Bridge. Jane’s work has also been regularly exhibited in various local group settings and via Open Studio events.

'For me, putting paintbrush to canvas is an act of love combined with a deep spiritual awareness and trusting of intuition. There is a willingness to risk vulnerability and the desire to stay open to new possibilities, therefore learning profound truths about myself and the world with every paint stroke.

My work emerges from layers of paint, collage and detailed illustration. I approach the canvas with an idea of the final outcome but allow for spontaneity with colour, tone and texture. My recent work focuses on the interconnectedness of life, nature and the soul. Therefore turning away from modern, chaotic living. Ephemera are important additions as I am intrigued by their personal narrative, naivety, and links with a bygone era. There is an ethereal, dream-like quality to my paintings which reflects a meditative cleansing of the soul.
