Jessica Suarez is a Latin American artist from Santiago, Chile. Had formal Fine Arts education at UMCE and Universidad de Chile where she was taught and influenced by important national Artists such as Daniela Bustos and Pedro Bernal. From a very early age started to draw and paint and eventually became a self-made painter.
We can define her work as a mixture of Neo-expressionism, Abstract and Conceptual art although some of her works can be more classic like Impressionist art. We can compare her works to some of Immendorf or J.Georg Dokoupil (The Wild Savages-80’s Neo-Expressionists). Most of times we see no brush strokes but an energetic movement and blobs of paint suggesting the use of fingers and a quick birth of her work. “I paint as in a trance...quickly, I let the colours and themes pick me and not the other way around”. The themes are diverse, sometimes romantic, other times satirical; other times pessimistic and sad...other times overjoyed... a rollercoaster of emotion and colour.
Jessica has worked and has been taught at the same time by a recognized Spanish artist (Jose Cano), from him she has learned the Encaustic on Canvas technique. She has worked at Sotheby’s London as his assistant for his last exhibitions. She is also a teacher of Arts and a photographer.
Jessica has exhibited in Chile and is currently developing her career in London. She has also written Poetry books amongst them “He who made”, a collection of 13 love poems with illustrations of her own.
