Jo Slater-Thomas, born in Yorkshire and now living in West Sussex, is a self-taught artist with a background in Business Administration.
In Yr 2000, Jo’s cousin Rosemarie and husband Neville left their positions of Matron and Senior Housemaster of a Harrogate boarding school to take over the management of the Open Arms Infants Home in Malawi. Jo decided to take a career break to raise money to help them become established by selling her early work, raising over £5,000. Her work proved so popular that became a full time professional artist. She now splits her time between working with husband Simon, who operates his own telecom’s company, and her art business, Kind Arts.
Jo has become known for her lively, vibrant style and has a wide range of customers in the UK, Spain, Italy, Australia, Canada and Japan. She works quickly to capture movement and energy, using a limited palette to keep the work vibrant. Jo aims not to challenge but to lift the viewer’s mood by using bright colours and often humour in her painting.
