I graduated in October 2006 from the University of Plymouth with a 2:1 Degree in Fine Art. During which was awarded the Principal Prize award out of the whole of the degree show at the end of the second year, receiving a cheque and inclusion in the Art College show.
I am a Minimalist with a hint of Abstract Expressionism. My work consists of the simplicity of the square and the line. I truly enjoy the use of colour and usually strive to make it as vibrant as possible. To emphasize this I use white space, I see this as a void, a visual silence. It creates another dimension and an interaction between the viewer and the painting.
The theory behind my latest work is to try so hard to achieve something, to make it perfect, to show control, and then show loss of it. To strip my paintings back to the essentials, really simplify it. To work so hard to control something, then to simply wipe it away. The power of subtleness. Absent yet present. To eliminate the unnecessary so the necessary can speak.
