HAND PAINTED ICON ART
....the use of acrylics to create larger media related works has proven to be immensely popular & my take on the popularity of so-called 'pop art' or 'icon art', loosely based upon Andy Warhol’s innovative ‘60’s works, is to add enough detail, depth and quality of feeling to effect a move away from mass produced images, creating something truly personal & original!
….defining shape in monotone, to produce an image that is instantly recognisable, primarily in portraits, is an immense challenge, yet enjoyable and rewarding…
...one of my aims is to give people the opportunity of owning an original artwork at a very affordable price and on a scale which will suit modern homes…
FINE ART DRAWINGS
…an ongoing series of unique pen & ink drawings of various musicians & singers who have influenced & inspired so many….the majority of these drawings are done using a 'stippling' or 'pointillism' technique; thousands of ink dots creating a sense of depth and realism. Many also incorporate the words of songs providing the depth and tone of the portrait in a highly original manner. Using commercially available drawing pens, this method, whilst infinitely rewarding, requires extreme patience and discipline!…this method has also been used to create highly individualised and personalised commissioned portraiture
though time consuming - over 6 months in some cases - each drawing takes on its own challenge as there is never a preconceived end result so, in effect, the picture defines & designs itself!!
...I also try to create works that satisfy on 2 levels; compositions with impact as well as, on closer inspection, detail that invites the viewer to linger awhile!!
My work has been exhibited all over Cheshire, North Wales, the Midlands and the North West of England and my interest in portraying musicians is paralleled by an enthusiasm for making music - a multi-instrumentalist & registered guitar tutor, I am a member of highly regarded Special Crew, a Midlands based folk rock dance band as well as a founder member of Widnes based Celtic folk rock band GogMAgoG
