In 1998 I was awarded a distinction on my Foundation Course at Kings Hedges College Cambridge. From there I completed my BA (hons) in Fine Art and Illustration at De Montfort University where I was awarded a first in 2001. This was despite much of my final year at University being taken up working as a professional illustrator. During the summer before my third year I decided to try and work as an illustrator and lied my way into a couple of porfolio showings saying I had already graduated with a first.
I was awarded a 3 year contract with The Apple Agency in Scunthorpe and soon found myself producing stock art for Illustration Works in Seattle in the USA and Masterfile in Canada.
As well as working on my degree I was tasked with producing a 50 image CD for Digital Vision in London on the theme of summer.
After the CD was published Illustration Works had me do some similar images for them. Since then I have exhibited my work up and down the country on a regular basis, undertaken commissions and have done work for More! Magazine.
In the last twelve months my work is more about paint than image. My love for paint as a substance, as liquid colour, is blurring the boundries between illustration and fine art. Both disciplines have always run side by side for me and informed and fed off one another. I feel the driving force now in my work is the context in which it is viewed. An illustration is always a means to an end, but similar images in the context of canvas and galleries are something with more longevity. Artgallery rating
