I was born in 1982 in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa & discovered my love for art at the young age of 11. At the time I’d been living in a small coastal town in the Western Cape along the Garden Route & found I had a knack for sketching detail when we began drawing diagrams in science and biology classes at school. My talent came from my father who did amazing artworks with an air-brush.
My skills lay relatively dormant until we moved back to Natal briefly when I was 15. There I had a brilliant art teacher who saw my potential and encouraged me to move onto paint where my love for acrylics began. I started with pop art and soon after, moved on to abstract when we moved to a small town in the Karoo, also on the Garden Route. I was fortunate enough to have yet another wonderful mentor in my art teacher. For years I worked hard to better my skills and create pieces I loved. For 10 years after school the only painting I did was for a curio shop- part time. There, I began doing African inspired pieces & mostly concentrating on the bushman rock art theme and Ndebele patterns.
It wasn’t until late 2007 that my passion for art was rekindled when I began working for ArtKaroo Gallery as a graphic designer. I was inspired to paint again after my employer, (artist Janet Dixon), urged me to attend a sketch session one evening. It was easy to fall back into it being surrounded by artists and amazing works every day. Spending a lot of time with a good friend, (artist Nadine Kriek), I then attempted nudes & it has been my topic of choice ever since. It was at ArtKaroo Gallery that I exhibited work for the first time.
I now live in the UK & have been here since late July 2010. Painting both nudes and African themed pieces and also enjoying the colder climate and scenery.
