Juliet has worked in chalk pastels for more than 20 years and in 2009 she set up her specialist portrait studio. She works mainly to commission from her design studio overlooking the Golden Valley in Gloucestershire.
Juliet has drawn from an early age, studying art at school and went on to train in design. After working as a professional designer for 15 years, she decided to set up her own studio focusing on her interest in portraiture. Juliet is particularly interested in capturing the essential quality behind the face we see and is happy to work to commission for an individually tailored potrait of people or animals.
Juliet's black and white drawings are part of an exploration of the essential components which convey the character and spirit of a person or animal in a portrait and provide a more spare and contemporary style of work than her richly coloured pastel portraits.
“I work to capture the essence of people and animals rather than to re-create a photographic likeness. People often say they love the warmth and depth of my work, which is wonderful because that is exactly what I am trying to achieve”.
