I was born in 1975 in Slupsk, Poland. I have studied at the Faculty of Graphic Art and Painting Complementary M. A. Studies of The Strzeminski Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Lodz under prof. Stanislaw Labedzki. I received my Diploma in 2004. I live and work in Poland and in the UK. In 2003 – 2004 I had few collective exhibitions in Slupsk, Poland.
Since my childhood I was always interested in nature. How the power of nature influenced my imagination?
I was growing up in a small city surrounded by forests, with a river and very close to the Baltic Sea. Nature was always in my mind and my heart. My father, the sculptor who worked with the material of wood and stone, was always inspiring me. Observing him I understood that man is an inseparable element of nature, influences his environment.
In the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Lodz I found out my own technique of black & white nude graphics. It is similar to “sgraffito”. I covered a few layers of a paint on the cardboard. First layer was a white paint, then I painted black and gray image of nude women. Afterwards I started to scratch off the colours which in the process uncovered white colour. For this project I used the chisels which were a present from my father. The black & white nude graphics were a part of my Diploma.
At the same time I was preoccupied with a new idea about creating a painting using nature. In 2005 I came to the UK and I started looking and collecting different kind of leaves which reminded of homeland. Leaves become my ideal subject in the process of art. Nature become a painting. Using a canvas, real dry leaves and various warm, earth colours I created “3D” pictures.
During my living in the UK I attended to a ceramic course in Mac Arts Centre. I have learned there how to “put my ideas into clay”. I designed small pieces of a ceramics with animal figures depicted on the surface. It took me time but it helped me to understand the animal`s world. Then I did knitted frames for my ceramics. I had this feeling that the clay needs a natural and warm textile to work together with. So I wrapped my frames in a wool-in that case in the natural, brown colour.
I also created a series of animal paintings which were a natural continuation of my previous work. I used my favorite palette of earth, warm colours of acrylic.
I think I am still a student of nature.
