Artist Ken Hayes

Originally from Yorkshire I moved to the South Wales Valleys 20 years ago. I developed the creative urge at an early age and have always had a passion for Watercolour. Before I eventually made it my career I spent 19 years as a Cartoon Animator for Film and TV working on many children's series for BBC, ITV and S4C. I worked for renowned Warner Bros animator Chuck Jones and was part of the team that turned Prince Charles' story 'The Legend of Lochnagar' into an animated half hour special. I left the industry in 2006 to concentrate on painting full time. I have a simple approach to painting 'I paint what I see' and it suits me to keep materials to a minimum, brushes are a no.12 Sable, no.2 Rigger and a no.10 Mop for large washes. Paper is 140lb Bockingford Rough surface and I only use just 6 colours. My subject matter is varied but it usually involves people going about daily life. I have work in collections here and abroad and recent sales include Lambeth Palace, The Foreign Office and the British Embassy in Latvia. I hope you enjoy looking at what I have to offer. Cheers!
