Artist Laurie Clarke

I am a multi-disciplined artist who is able to create art through various techniques including painting, photography, mixed media and printmaking, which I studied at university. I am excited by the possibilities of different materials and how their properties can determine a final outcome. I have been creating art in various forms for as long as I can remember and since school a sketchbook has been my constant companion. These sketchbooks are often handmade and become pieces of artwork in their own right. They are filled with doodles, drawings, found images and assorted treasures. They show my thought processes, my visual diary illustrating the art journey that I have traveled. Whichever medium I am using, pattern, colour and space always feature heavily in my work. I am currently developing a series of paintings infusing vintage wallpaper designs, fabrics and nature. They are heavily influenced by the patterns and colours of the Art Deco period, in particular the work of Charles Rennie Macintosh.
