Ever since I can remember I have always been drawing. I started doing pencil portraits of people which I got commissioned for, which then progressed into painting. I studied and got very high grades in GCSE and A Level art. Then between leaving college until 2009 (over 10 years), I put painting on the back burner, and I am glad I did as it has allowed me to grow as a person. Now, I am older, I am more of a perfectionist and I can find beauty in almost anything! I find lit up subjects in dark places fascinating - the way shadows are cast and the way the different shades show this... It can go either way, from soft and sensual to dark and sinister. As well as lighting, I also find that focus can make something relatively normal and uninteresting look interesting. Place focus on one part of a painting, can suddenly make it look quite mysterious and also 3d. I am currently working this into my paintings alongside different lighting.
