I have always had an interest in art, taking (and passing) GCSE and A level art. Art was my speciality on my teaching degree and was always the subject that I enjoyed teaching the most as it knows no boundaries with regard to academic ability and all children could benefit from it.
After leaving teaching it became increasingly difficult to find an outlet for my creative side, so I started to make my own greetings cards, which my friends and family loved to receive. In 2007 I joined an amateur dramatics group to help paint the sets for their shows. It took a while to get used to the sheer scale of painting things that big, but a challenge that I've stepped up to. I now get involved in the design of the set as well as actually painting the sets. Leading a small team of painters we create the sets for the group's three shows each year, including the annual, award winning, panto.
